Moving upstairs to the Special Care Nursery
Moving dayOriginally uploaded by XavRicaSo the doctors have sent out blood work to the lab and have asked us to stay the weekend in the nursery. Kai is being monitored by the staff who want to make sure he’s getting enough fluids and feeding well and breathing smoothly. He’s on a IV right now and has been taking in lots of breast milk, and he already is breathing a lot easier. Now we have moved into our room and are able to be with him and also get some sleep. Last night the nurses were watching him all night and Erica was able to get some rest. She woke up a few times to feed him and all in all got about 6 hours of much needed sleep. Now we just need to keep the milk coming and keep this little guy’s belly full and nice and cozy so he can get better and come home soon.
Kai taking lots of naps now
Little guy has a bit of a fever
DSCN0118Originally uploaded by XavRicaKai has been running a temperature and adjusting to the outside world is taking longer that normal. Last night the doctors decided that he needed to get a bunch of tests done. That meant we had to take him upstairs to the nursery and he was poked and prodded with all kinds of scary needles and things. Little guy was a trooper through the whole thing and held up much better than mom and dad did.
Little guy is feeling pretty tired
DSCN0086Originally uploaded by XavRicaKai has been taking his time with everything these days. He’s also taking a little longer than average to adjust to the outside world. Basically that means that he’s sleeping alot as his body gets used to breathing and smelling the air. However he’s starting to eat now, which is good because he was not eating for the first 12 hours. He peaks at his mom and dad more now too… love it! Oh yeah, Mom is kinda tired too.
